Taubmans and Shaynna Blaze tackle Australia’s fear of colour with new digital tools 1 November 2014

Leading Australian paint brand, Taubmans today launches a suite of online tools to make colour selection easier. Research shows that over 70% of the nation chooses to paint their interiors white for fear of getting their paint colour wrong*. With these new digital tools, including the Paint Your Own Room tool and Shaynna Blaze’s 10 Commandments of Colour, Taubmans hopes Australians will embrace adding a splash of colour to their homes.

To give consumers the confidence to get started on their DIY projects this spring, Taubmans Brand Ambassador and Colour Creative Director, Shaynna Blaze has created Taubmans 10 Commandments of Colour - ten tips that debunk common colour myths and arm consumers with the knowledge they need to get painting with colour right, every time.

It surprises me how many homeowners resort to painting with white when Taubmans has a catalogue of over five and a half thousand paint shades available. Despite Australia’s vibrant culture, it seems people are lacking the confidence to use different colour choices in their homes,” explains Shaynna Blaze.

“It’s my mission to provide DIY novices with a better understanding of how colour can transform a space. By breaking down the paint selection process into simple steps, my 10 Commandments of Colour help people to tackle their fear of colour head-on and feel empowered to choose the perfect colour for their home,” she says.

Taubmans 10 Commandments of Colour is a bespoke visual guide, available on the Taubmans website and Taubmans Pinterest page, that provides quick and easy rules to follow when selecting a paint colour. Colour theory is broken down into bite-sized tips, including how to manipulate a space with colour, getting the colour proportions right and choosing the correct colour combinations for your home.

Once they have narrowed their selection using the tips, consumers can head to www.taubmans.com.au to virtually test out colours in their room using the Paint Your Own Room tool.

The Paint Your Own Tool allows users to upload an image of the room that they plan to paint and digitally re-colour the walls with a hue of their choice. Users can visualise the change and check they are happy with their selection before they even pick up a paintbrush. The steps are easy:

  1. Upload your photo
  2. Mark your walls
  3. Choose the right colour

Nadine Miller-Vachon, Taubmans Head of Marketing explains, “This spring, Taubmans wants to encourage Australians to embrace colour in their homes by offering DIY decorators an easy-to-use colour tool that will help to make the decision of choosing the right colour easier than ever before.

“We’ve seen an increasing trend in people seeking inspiration for their DIY projects digitally on their tablets and mobile phones. Our new online colour tool will help consumers get their project started. All they need to do is upload a photo of their own room and explore their colour options.”

Supplementing the new digital tools, Taubmans is offering personal colour consulting services this October. Taubmans Style Consultants, recruited from design programs, will be at Homemaker Centres in October to help customers with their colour queries and share guidance on choosing the right shade. Equipped with iPads featuring the Paint Your Own Room tool, the consultants will demonstrate the tool and help people to see their painting project come to life virtually.

On the weekends of the 4th and 11th October, Taubmans Style Consultants will also be on hand at 50 Bunnings stores. Consultants will also offer colourful collateral, including Taubmans Look Books for shoppers to take home as inspiration.
