According to the National Asthma Council Australia over 2 million Australians suffer from asthma, one of the highest rates in the world. Around 11% of children and 10-15% of adults have been diagnosed with the disease. It's one of the most common reasons for the hospital admissions of children, and 385 people died due to asthma in 2007.
Allergic diseases have increased dramatically over recent years, and currently 40% of Australians suffer from some form of allergy.
Mould is a microscopic fungi that lives on plant and animal matter. It grows on virtually any substance where moisture is present and can be found almost anywhere. Exposure to mould may trigger asthma symptoms such as coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. It can also trigger allergy symptoms like a runny nose.
