Supporting Disaster Recovery and Rebuilding with GIVIT 19 October 2020
Supporting disaster recovery and rebuilding
The Taubmans ‘In it Together’ fundraising campaign, launched with GIVIT in March as part of our ongoing partnership, generated a staggering $155,000 donation in support of bushfire, drought and flood affected communities across Australia.
With the help of DIY and professional painters who chose to paint with Taubmans between 26 March and 31 July, and the generosity of our retail partners Bunnings, Bristol and participating independent stores, GIVIT was able to provide immediate support to people in need during early recovery efforts.
But we understand that community rebuilding takes a long-term commitment, so a portion of the funds are now also helping to restore and refresh important community assets, while also promoting regional economic recovery.
In the town of Wairewa in East Gippsland, Victoria, the lifesaving community hall has been given a much deserved lifeline, including a fresh coat of paint expertly applied by professional painters from nearby Orbost.
When fire tore through the small town on 30 December 2019, many residents sheltered with their pets in the hall and livestock on the grounds, as CFA firefighters battled ember attacks from the surrounding bushfires that claimed 11 homes.
Now, Wairewa hall is ready for the community to return to and reunite once Covid-19 restrictions are eased, and to enjoy for many more years to come.
